Florida Training Trip

Theme of the weekend: RAIN!

I wouldn’t have believed when I booked my flight to FL a few weeks back, that I would have three full days of rain in what is usually a sunny experience! I was able to have an awesome Saturday with Michelle & Matt Nelson, and their awesome family! Matt & I took to the water near West Palm Beach (Matt, an ultra-runner took to a run along the water) for some rough water training; aka PERFECT Hawaii training! After being kicked out of one beach for it being too rough, I went farther up the coast where I found a beach where the guards let me out into the surf…  Matt took some awesome pictures of the experience, and I was able to take a solid beating in the waves!

Michelle & I then took to a local pool for some lap swimming before heading home for a great dinner at their
home (FYI, Michelle’s chocolate cake = PERFECT!) Matt & Michelle founded, and run The Endurance Trust, which is a non-profit benefiting the PLGA Foundation to find a cure for pediatric brain tumors… One word. FANTASTIC! Another great example of people using endurance athletics to raise money for children!

On Sunday morning, Steve, Jess & I drove out to Clearwater Beach for some more training… more rough water, but again, perfect training! The Clearwater Beach lifeguards were very friendly, and surprisingly there were other people walking along the beach despite the rain. THE RAIN CAN’T KEEP US DOWN! Overall, a great day and looking forward to a relaxing evening before flying back to PGH in the AM!
